S-a năcut la Sevilla în 6 ianuarie 1931, însă copilăria şi-a petrecut-o la Zufre, iar adolescenţa în Higuera de la Sierra. A urmat atât studiile liceale, cât şi cele universitare în Sevilla, iar restul studiilor superioare în Anglia şi în Statele Unite. Cultivând diverse genuri literare, obţine premiul „Washington Irving” pentru povestiri, premiul „Leopoldo Panero” şi “Fastenrath” pentru poezie şi Premiul Naţional de Literatură pentru nuvela El mono azul. Este membru al Real Academia Sevillana de Buenas Letras (Academia Regală Seviliane de Buenas Letras) şi a locuit în diferite ţări în calitate de profesor invitat şi în calitate de oficial internaţional.

 

[EN] Aquilino Duque is a poet laureate from Seville, Spain. He has written over thirty books of essay, novel and poetry. In 1975, he received Spain's national literature award for his novel El mono azul. He has written extensively on Doñana's national park. In 1981, he was inducted into the Royal Academy of Letters in Seville, Spain. Aquilino Duque has travelled extensively all over the world and has lectured in numerous universities and public institutions like the University of Chicago, the University of Pennsylvania, Swarthmore College, Bryn Mawr College, etc. A prolific writer and poet, Aquilino Duque is a prominent figure in the poetic landscape of Spain and South America, and has collaborated closely with important authors like Jorge Guillén, Camilo José Cela, Rafael Alberti, or Octavio Paz. His most recent book of poems, Entreluces was published in 2009 and has emerged as one of the most praised books among the younger generation of poets and has led authors like José Mateos to praise the clarity of its style, the complexity of its metaphors, and his ability to bridge contemporary and classical Spanish literature.
